Battles of the Civil War in Paulding County

As we mark the 160th anniversary of the Civil War in Paulding County, Wayne Willingham, a leading source of genealogy and history, will discuss the 3 major battles that took place in our community: The Battles of New Hope, Dallas, and Pickett’s Mill. Anyone interested in the Civil War or the local families involved in this historical era will enjoy this presentation. This will be an educational experience for individuals who are curious about how their families were impacted by the battles that unfolded here in Paulding County in 1864.

Wayne Willingham has been the Commander of the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) of Paulding County for more than 26 years. He has produced their monthly programs featuring college history professors and battlefield historians as speakers. Under his leadership, the SCV has acquired property and erected Civil War monuments in New Hope and Dallas. Mr. Willingham is a lifelong resident of Paulding and has distinguishably served as the president of the New Hope Cemetery Trust, treasurer of the Friends of the Civil War in Paulding County, member of the Masonic Dallas Lodge #182, and trustee of the PC Cemetery Preservation Commission.

This monthly program of the Paulding County Genealogical Society is open to the public at no cost and will be from 10am to 12pm on Saturday June 1st. The June presentation will be held at the historic New Hope 2nd Baptist Church - a small white building at the SW corner of Bobo Rd and Dallas/Acworth Hwy - located at 44 Bobo Road in New Hope, Georgia.  The 1864 Battle of New Hope Church was fought at this location and battlefield trenches can still be seen beyond the parking lot.
